All Over The World

Today was amazing.  I spent 8 hours of this day with a group of Kenyan church leaders who are hungry and ready for a fresh move of God! It was one of those days that the Lord chose to speak loudly at me....to get my attention, open my eyes and show me some things. The more I travel around, the more countries I visit, the more people I meet, the more conversations I have, I am realizing a few things that are giving me tons and tons of hope and joy!  My Kenyan brothers and sisters filled me with hope today! May I share it with you?

  • God is moving all over the world
  • God is preparing people all over the world. He is getting soil ready for a harvest!
  • There are people becoming sick and tired of ineffectiveness for the Lord all over the world.
  • There is a growing "holy frustration" all over the world.
  • People are hungry for a fresh move of God all over the world.
  • People are feeling the same things growing in their hearts all over the world.
  • People all over the world are asking the same questions.
  • People all over the world are weary of the same churchy games.
  • People all around the world are hearing a new trumpet sound.
  • People all over the world are changing the direction of their trot.
  • All across the world, people are joining a structural revolution and reformation in the church.
  • All over the earth, God is raising up people and communities committed to being faithful disciple makers.
And the end of the story is that the glory of God will fill the earth and every knee will bow to the Christ, the son of the Living God!

I am coming to believe that we are reaching the tipping point. The party is starting.  And I don't think there is any stopping us now.

How about joining in?  Come on.

"The gospel of the good news will be preached in all nations, and then the end will come." Matthew 24:14

East Africa Trip

Early tomorrow morning, me and two friends/fellow All Nations leaders (Archie Van Der Byl and Thomas Reber), head to East Africa for 17 days. We will be in the Nairobi, Kenya area for about 7 days.  We will do a JDx Training (Jesus Discipleship Experience) and explore future ministry options in Kenya.

Then, we will spend about 10 days in Addis Ababa and Awassa Ethiopia where we will lead another JDx and then attend the IMA Holy Spirit and Missions conference with leaders from around the world.

I hope to tweet and blog from the road when I can. We would value your prayers and prophetic words should the Lord give you something for us.

(This will be my last trip of the year before heading back to the US of A with the whole gang around November 15!)

JDx coming to Kenya and Ethiopia!

I am thrilled to announce that I will be heading back to East Africa again in just a few short weeks with two partners in crime here at All Nations. Thomas Reber (Switzerland) and Archie Van Der Byl (South Africa) and I will be in Kenya and Ethiopia leading Jesus Discipleship Experience (JDx) training programs for disciple making leaders. We are excited about what the Lord is preparing.

Are you passionate about faithful, Jesus-centered Disciple Making?  JDx unpacks seven counterintuitive values of disciple-making.

Do you or someone you know live near Nairobi or Addis Ababa?

Can you help us get the word out?

  • Nairobi, Kenya: September 6-9
  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: September 13-16

12 Principles of Discovery Discipleship

Floyd McClung, Founder and Director of All Nations, lifelong Jesus-loving missional leader, who also happens to be our leader and our friend here in Cape Town posted this on his blog the other day.  I think it's brilliant and I wanted to share it with you. ________________

DISCOVERY DISCIPLESHIP seeks to empower emerging leaders to bring about sustainable transformation in society and to ignite self-sustaining, reproducing movements of Jesus’ disciples making more disciples, and through that, to build healthy reconciled communities and nations. Discovery discipleship is based on Biblical principles of personal and community obedience to Jesus Christ.

The principles of discovery discipleship are as follows:

1. Obedience to a few simple truths that a person discovers from the teachings of Jesus is a more powerful form of transformation than seeking ever increasing knowledge about the Bible or Christianity as a “religion”.

2. Investing in a few obedient followers of Jesus is a more powerful form of transformation than seeking to influence multitudes of non-obedient Christian spectators.

3. “Insiders” make the best leaders: “outsiders” are to invest in insiders, those inside the culture or business a network of relationships that God wants to use to bring about transformation.

4. Self-discovery of the life-transforming truths Jesus taught is more powerful than being told what to believe.

5. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher; the role of mentors is to facilitate opportunity for new followers of Jesus to hear the Holy Spirit speak directly to them from the Bible, without being told what to believe.

6. The teachings of Jesus in the Bible are the greatest source of wisdom for transforming a nation.

7. Every person has the resources within them through faith in Christ to be a leader in their community; the greatest obstacle to being a transformational leader is not poverty of circumstances, but poverty of mind and spirit.

8 God has prepared persons of peace inside every culture, business, government, neighborhood and sphere of society who are the key persons to bring about transformation. Such persons are not just “networkers”, or “gatekeepers”, but persons ready to obey Jesus, to change their mind and behavior about sinful, selfish choices that are destructive to themselves and their community.

9. Discipleship is intentional relationship. Transformational discipleship is intentionally investing in someone so they might have the opportunity to experience the life-transforming power of knowing and obeying Jesus Christ and as a result, bringing transformation to their community.

10. Jesus invited people who did not yet know him to be his disciples; he discipled people to convert them, he did not convert them to disciple them.

11. Belonging leads to believing, not just believing to belonging. In other words, Jesus modeled inviting people to be part of his spiritual family as a way of bringing them to obedient faith – he did not wait for them to believe in order to invite them to belong. If they did not grow to obedient faith, he did not kick them out, but at the same time, he gave attention to those most serious about obeying him.

12. Discovery discipleship happens best in small discovery Bible studies that provide opportunity for accountability and practice of the above mentioned principles. These discovery groups are capable of growing into simple churches that can multiply and bring transformation every sphere of society.

JDx. A Game Changer.

I love All Nations.  I probably do not give enough shout outs to the place we get the privilege of serving.  Sent by Eastern Mennonite Missions, we serve with All Nations in Cape Town with the legend, Floyd McClung and a host of other missional geniuses. Here is our website. All Nations runs a 5 month Church Planting School (CPx) that you have heard me share about before. It is life changing for those that experience it.  It was for Tricia and I. And the stuff taught in CPx is brilliantly biblical and radically fresh. CPx trains church planters for the nations with movements in mind and heart.

But here is the problem: Not everyone can or should come to Cape Town for 5 months. For financial, practical and missional reasons. I can say more about that later.

Which led us to an opportunity: Let's extract the best of the best values from the 5 month CP training and put it into a shorter, mobile, portable, teachable curriculum that can be taken anywhere by any of our staff.

And then, let's publish it, distribute it and give it away to the nations.

So we did just that!

I rallied a team together and drove them through a 4 month process of completing our first release of JDx; Jesus Discipleship Experience...7 Counterintuitive Values of Disciple Making and Church Planting.

We released it to Staff April 15th. It is already being taught in 4 countries in 3 weeks.

JDx is already proving to be a game changer.  The curriculum can be taught in 1 day, 1 weekend, 1 week or 2 weeks. It can be adopted to any audience.  It can reprogram lifelong leaders or set new leaders in motion with proper DNA.

We are offering one in Cape Town July 7-14 that you can register for it HERE.

I am currently making plans personally to lead JDx's in a number of countries that I have been invited to bring this to already.

I anticipate that the JDx training will take off and fly many places. People want something fresh, something simple, something biblical, something faithful....and now we can take it and give it away...for the glory of the King.

Our Cheesy House Church

House_church

Thruthfully, even though we moved across the world in part to explore simple/organic/house church stuff, I always had a bit of a skeptics eye. I mean, I spent 30 years in real church.  Ya know, the legitimate kind with all the bells a whistles a church should have. So, the idea of 5 or 10 people sitting in a living room being a church was a tad awkward to me.  A tad weird.  A little cheesy.

Well, off we went and here we are.  We are starting Discovery Bible Studies, planting simple churches and our family is a part of a house church with other staff and families at All Nations.

Let me tell you a little about our cheesy house church:

  • There are about 7 adults, 7 kids.
  • We meet weekly.
  • We change the time and location just about every week.  It is mobile and flexible.
  • We talk and text almost daily.
  • We swim, play, eat, travel, shop and hike together.
  • We are in intentional discipling relationships with each other.
  • We give each other rides and share our cars.
  • We confess and cry together.
  • We wacth each other's kids.
  • We pray for each other.
  • We are talking about doing a vacation together.
  • We prohecy over each other.
  • We speak God's heart for each other over one another.
  • We will spend two hours loving on one person if that is the Lord's agenda for the night.
  • No one is in charge.  No one is the leader.
  • But somehow every time, Jesus uses someone different to lead us.
  • Our kids are incolved in some special way every time we meet. 2 weeks back we acted out a story in the Bible. Last week we made prayer houses over each kid one by one and prayed and prophecied over them. They only last about 15 minutes. Then we release them to go "fellowship" kids style.
  • We talk, dream and live mission.
  • We warn and caution each other.
  • We worship together.
  • We share the Lord's supper.  The kids too.
  • We anoint each other with oil.  The kids too.
  • It is different every week.
  • Jesus is clearly and boldly the head.
  • We eat.
  • We eat.
  • And we eat.

So, that is some of what our cheesy house church is all about. Our cheesy house church is one of the most meaninful community experiences I have ever had in my life. I am officially a fan of cheesy house churches.

Countries Represented at CPx

I'm deeply honored to join about 15 staff as we host and train 38 students who came from the nations so that they can go to the nations to make disciples and plant churches.

Here are the 14 countries represented in this year's CPx student body:

Canada
South Africa
Sweden
Zimbabwe
Whales
Netherlands
USA
Malawi
Australia
Scotland
Switzerland
Zambia
Germany
Morocco

I get the honor of hanging out with these folks for three months as we prepare to take Jesus to the nations. Yippee.

A year ago tonight...

It is hard to believe it, but we posted this video on YouTube one year ago tonight! One year ago tonight we were packing our final bags and preparing to depart for South Africa.  (Still thankful for my Sister, Joeley and Brother in Law, Eamon for letting us launch from their pad!)

Within this year, Jesus has opened our eyes, enlarged our hearts, changed our minds, grown our family and set new visions and dreams in our hearts for the future. There really are not words to say how thankful we are to be in the will of God serving here in South Africa. It has been a year where God has kept His promises and fulfilled his prophecies in our lives.

You can see the pain of sacrifice in our eyes in this video. It is not easy to follow Jesus when it hurts--when it means leaving people you love. But I am here to speak up as a testimony that the reward is far greater than the sacrifice.

And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life. Matthew 19:29 // We have found this to be true in more ways than we would have thought.

Financial Support of our Work

Slide1

Our family is sending you each the greatest holiday love and blessings that we can! We count it a high honor to serve Jesus here in Africa and the partnership of many people, families and churches make God's calling our reality.

It is hard to believe that we are wrapping up our first year in Africa. We both tend to think that God has done more IN us than THROUGH us, but we have deep gratitude for both.

As we wrap up 2011, we look back thrilled with what we have seen. As we head into 2012, we are sure that the future is bright with opportuinities to love people and make disciples.

The truth is this-- we cannot be here without financial partners.  Period. And we are stll in need of investors. $20 a month is a big deal to us! A one time gift of a few hundred dollars helps tremendously. As the end of the year approaches, might you consider one of two things:

1. Might you be willing to make a one time contribution to our missions work?  You can do so online with a debit/credit card by CLICKING HERE or by mailing a check to:

Eastern Mennonite Missions

PO Box 458

Salunga, PA 17538

(Be sure that "Kaye Support" is in the memo of the check.)

2. Might you be willing to make a monthly pledge for the coming year? If so, you can set that up online by clicking HERE or simply email me, message me or comment here and I will personally walk you through the process.

It would be so encouraging if the Lord would lead you to act on this invitation to partner with us!  We trust the Lord for His continued provision through you.

"Every time we think of you, we give thanks to our God....for you have been partners in spreading the good news about Christ..."  Phil. 1:3-6

Chomping at the Bit!

I have be honest. I am chomping at the bit to get engaged in full time ministry again. Basically feel like I have been “out of my element” for over 4 months now. (Fundraising is not my calling.) We are ready to start CPx, ready to grow with our new community and ready to start ministering in a hands-on way. We arrived 3 weeks earlier than the start of CPx on purpose (mainly for Davis to start school on time), and I am glad we did. But, we are a tad bored now, honestly. There are lots of worthy things that we are spending our time doing, but we are feeling a tad restless and ready to launch. We completed what we needed to faster than we thought.

Some of you may still be unsure of what we will be doing at first. Here is a link to tell you all about the Church Planting Experience (CPx) that we will be joining staring February 6: http://all-nations.co.za/index.php/opportunities/full/cpx/. We will do this until the end of June as a sort of phase one of our time in Cape Town.

Grace to you!
